Turck's excom I/O system is now also approved for maritime use
Ship Approval for excom I/O System
15/14 – The new “marine ship approved” rack makes the complete excom system suitable for use on board ships
Mülheim, October 21, 2014 – Turck's excom I/O system has been certified for maritime applications and can now also be used in applications requiring certification from Germanischer Lloyd, Det Norske Veritas, Bureau Veritas or Lloyd’s Register. This includes, for example, the mounting in control consoles, housings or cabinets on board seagoing vessels, tankers or oil platforms. Specially for the increased requirements of the shipbuilding sector, Turck has designed its own mechanically reinforced module rack to thus ensure safe use on board.
The excom system can be installed in both Zone 2 and in Zone 1. All modules with intrinsically safe circuits through to Zone 0 can be used in the “marine ship approved” module rack and are approved for use in the maritime environment. excom meets the relevant EMC requirements without the implementation of any additional measures, such as metal housings or EMC cable glands. If the specific application requires the use of housings, these just have to comply with explosion protection requirements.
As with all excom systems, the ship building version offers benefits such as simple handling for commissioning and maintenance during operation, or system diagnostics with LEDs, which indicate the status of the system, internal and external communication on the fieldbus as well as the periphery.
